A favored region

The MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges currently has a population of 137,708 people. The population growth of 12.4% experienced by the MRC between 2006 and 2011 is significantly higher than that of Québec’s provincial growth rate (4.1%) and Montérégie (6.5%). The median age of a Vaudreuil-Soulangeois is 38.3 years versus 40.8 years in the Montérégie region and 41 years in the province of Québec.

Education and Work

Compared to the rest of Québec, the population of Vaudreuil-Soulanges is considered more educated. In 2006, 79.8% of the population aged 15 and over in Vaudreuil-Soulanges graduated with a high school or higher diploma, compared to 75% within the same segment of the population in all of Québec. Of these, 38.9% of people aged 25 to 64 have at least a college degree, which is significantly greater than the entire Montérégie region (18.7%).

The unemployment rate in the region is 4.5%. As for employed persons, more than half (54%) of people living in Vaudreuil-Soulanges work outside the region, of which 83% in Montréal, whereas 9% are active in the region of Beauharnois-Salaberry, 2% in the Laval region and 6% elsewhere in the Montérégie.

Income

Our territory also distinguishs itself by a higher median family income which is well above the provincial average. In 2009 it reached $ 77,860 in Vaudreuil-Soulanges, compared to $69,690 for the Montérégie and $64,420 in Québec as a whole during this same reference year.

The percentage of low-income people within the MRC territory stands at 8.7%, which is almost twice lower than the provincial rate (17.2%). This rate is not homogenous throughout the region.

The MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges is a young and dynamic region that is experiencing tremendous demographic growth. In addition to having a better schooling rate than elsewhere in the province, the MRC has a family income higher than the provincial average.
